Help! What is eating my dragonfruit cactus?

This has been outside on the deck all summer. I'm worried that it might be aphids since I've been seeing ants all over it. What might be eating round holes like this? There's also a lot of new scarring. Wondering how to treat it since it's so large, spiky, and sprawling!

I'd guess slugs / snails. If you elevated the plant you might be able to fight this problem without resorting to poisons.

*smacks head* Of course! We have a large and healthy slug population. I never thought about them going after cactus, but that makes total sense. I'll elevate it and breathe a sigh of relief that I don't need to drench it with something to kill pests.

They eat everything - the pic has a 'track' that is typical of slug damage. A pan of cheap beer will attract them (save the good stuff for yourself).
