Potental Lake House

Can you offer suggestions on how to turn this ugly duckling into a swan?????? Thinking of purchasing this lake property but would love some suggestions on what to do with the exterior. Thanks!

Haha, no suggestions so far...should I take a pass on this house? Was hoping some very creative person had some thoughts?

Are those red strips shutters? They need to go. And the bushes are way overgrown. Otherwise the house looks fine.

If that's the front door, that can be emphasized. I'm guessing there are rooms in the basement.

Is the lake behind the house? Does it have a deck to see the lake? Does the house meet your needs?

Is the lake in front or behind the house? That will make a difference with suggestions...

Looks like a nice piece of property. I would remove the bushes and paint the red trim white. A glass front door would be more welcoming.

The home is not lakefront but a block away and has peek a boo views from the front.

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

I like the idea of removing shrubs and the glass door. Was thinking of a modern trellis over the garage. Can’t figure out the windows. Should I add trim all the way around them? I could remove the shutters and do thinker ones? Would mullions look strange?

The landscaping and color choices are not helping. You could completely change the look with different colors (and materials). The bushes are overgrown and past their prime. This front can be very nice with work and money.

Mullions would look strange and detract from the view out to the lake. A trellis would just emphasize the garage door which isn't the most beautiful part of a house so I wouldn't do that.

Agree with removing the red shutters and removing the too-large shrubs. Maybe you could just prune down the one beside the driveway.

The front porch should be painted a soft colour that looks good with the roof. I'd paint the garage door the same colour since it looks to be a brighter white than the siding.

Are those sliding doors on the lower level? If so, maybe add steps from them to your front deck.

Landscaping is really the only thing this house needs otherwise.

From my viewing of the photo it looks as though the windows already have mullions. Certainly, I can see something in the lower floor windows, but it might just be the frames. If they don't, and assuming they are not needed structurally, I would not add them.

first the house is really nice. it just needs some simple TLC. first change the front door with a glass insert to.let natural light in. Next paint the shutters maybe a blue ir a color you like black would look great as well. Trim the bushes so they are a shrub not a Bush. last thing do a flower bed in front of the house that has some curves to it with plants and bird bath and statues. Also maybe a tall cypress tree on the end corner. there is alot of potential for that house

If you added an upper level deck across the front, would you be able to see the lake?

A large part of the appeal of a lake house is to be able to see, as well as access, the lake. I would think a generous deck for entertaining would be a big plus.
