Oh boy IMO that backsplash is a dated look and lowering the hood could work how high is the top of the tile it looks like the hood is too high anyway

The tile is about 2 years old and could use an updated look I agree. The contractor did suggest getting an extender to lowering it .

What about removing some of the backsplash to bring it level to the base of the cabinets?

I would lower the range hood. It looks like it's too high.

When the contractor installed it he asked if I wanted it lowered. I ordered an extender to lower it.

Check the height of the hood off the cooktop against the manufacturer's instructions. In the photo, it appears to be too high, which will cause less effective ventilation than intended.

Thanks, the contractor is coming back to recheck it. He suggested lowering it too.

If you’re willing to change your backsplash, post full kitchen photos and some showing the countertop and cabinets as close as possible. You’ll get lots of ideas here.
And lowering the hood, as planned, is smart. It looks high.
