Insect holes in Persimmons

I have 4 year old Ruby and Meader persimmon trees and was excited to find a single fruit on each this summer. Soon afterwards, I discovered that each had a single hole shown in the photo.

Any ideas on the culprit pest? The only insects I observed were ants.

I'm expecting more fruit next year so I want to prevent this. I'm assuming there are no insect sprays "approved" for use on persimmons? I thought about wettable sulphur but with daytime temps here in southern Missouri zone 6b I'm reluctant to use it unless I tried it during the evening. Maybe a Tanglefoot band around the upper trunk?

Any help appreciated.
