How do you want the space to function for your family? How many people will be making use of the space at the same time? The only hint we have is the "mudroom" installation by the stairs. You'll need baskets to fit those cubbies for shoes. Is that a closet or bathroom opposite the stairs? Can you provide a floor plan with measurements?

Most likely as a lounge/hang out area. Closets along the wall with the staircase and a mechanical closet across from the staircase. The room is 20’6” x 16’5”

No bath or powder room? Have to go upstairs for that?

Correct! The garage leads into the basement. I was thinking if I could some how factor in a dry bar/bar area and maybe a couple chairs maybe 2 swivel chairs or something?

Your pano pix are deceiving but without any furniture it is hard to judge scale. You could do this with a loveseat and two swivel chairs instead of 4 and use a smaller coffee table.

Are you living in the space yet or is this a home you are moving into?

If you are not yet living in the space I may hold off on planning the space until you live in the home and determine what your family needs.

For me, I would set this space up as a craft room - keep the mess out of my main living area but have a comfortable space for me to work on crafts. My sister and her husband are game players and often have another couple over to play board games or card games. She would probably set this up with a nice game table. My nephew has 3 teenagers - I can guarantee he would set this up as a hang out space for the kids. My Niece and her husband are a bit on the sophisticated side and set their basement space up as a wine tasting room - no TV, nice sound system, soft lighting and 3 small bistro tables.

Too bad you didn't get the door to the mechanical room moved; that wall would have made a great area for the dry bar! I suggest TV on the garage wall. with the sofa and two chairs floating in front of it. Perhaps a sofa table could hold the liquor, glasses, tray, etc. Or you could arrange the bar under the window by the stairs and use an outlet there for a wine fridge if you wanted.
