how to make the bookcases proportionate?

I would keep the depth of built-ins to a minimum -- 14-15" overall depth should be sufficient

Before proceeding, please put a big piece of posterboard (or a sheet or even a bathtowel), up over the fireplace where you envision the TV.. Move the sofa over and "watch TV" for 10 minutes.

I think you will find that your neck will hurt from having to strain up. You may still be too close to enjoy the large screen, because the room isn't deep enough to support it.

Tv might be ok, because usually Recliners used.

Base mantel is 23.5”d,

upper mantel is 10” d,

top brick area where tv will go is 4”d.

we may install over the brick some white veneer brick? for muller mantel we were thinking to use a wood beam.

i don’t mind the step... can be used for Christmas decor.. wreath, candles, nutcrackers.
