When choosing a new roof, I would look for one with highly dimensional shingles- something to evoke the look of shake or slate. It would give it a storybook/cottage look. I would also entertain a multicolored roof.

Yes the shingle we chose is called colonial slate. Has a bit of gray blue and red in it.

Your house looks amazing as is! It looks like the “after” photo of a renovation. Everything is trimmed up nice and the colors really pop against the brick color.if you have money to burn maybe a larger porch lantern, a bench for the porch in iron with some shape that is taller and can be seen from a ways back.

Thank you! I would love to add an iron bench but there is not much space without it blocking off the side porch. We’ve moved the blue Adirondack chairs to the side porch for now. We had thought about adding an iron railing but I’m not quite sure how well that would work

I would want to transform your house into more of an English Tudor cottage with landscaping to match. That might mean stucco, rough shakes, some strategically placed stone and a wild and rambling garden. Here are some inspirational gardens which would be my focus if I couldn't do anything else to it.

Tudors usually have a variety of finishes e.g. some brick, some stone, some stucco. Yours may have had that originally and the variety was painted out. You could paint the chimney a different colour to make it stand out and be more interesting.

Wow that is gorgeous! We’ve been thinking about going lighter! And expanding the landscaping really makes a big difference!

Put some lattice on the full height of the chimney and add some climbing roses or bouganvillea. Would be really beautiful!

You could even put two small pergola-like projections above the windows on either side and train them to go both up and to the sides.
