Design Help Needed For Laundry Room

Hi There,

I need help with a design idea for my laundry room.

I have a sump pump and another pipe which goes from floor to ceiling. I also have exposed pipes that can be seen under the window. I would like to hide these unsightly pipes when I remodel. I was thinking about building two closets to hide the pipes (must extend two feet out from the wall which already has a ledge). I think this update would overshadow the window. Now I am thinking about building storage/closet all the way across so that it is symmetrical, but I am not sure I can block the window. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

It's a laundry room, so it's probably a low priority space. Your big problem is clutter and darkness, not pipes. How much hassle and money do you want to invest? You could greatly improve the space if you:

--Massively declutter so the room isn't a junk room. Do you really need a gazillion kinds of soaps and laundry products? Always declutter before redecorating.

--Replace the stained ceiling.

--Paint all the walls an off white/ivory/tan that harmonizes with the floor. (Is that a tile floor? If so, then get wall paint that works with it.) Or if the floor is shabby vinyl, replace it with a tile-look vinyl and paint walls a complementary color.

--Paint the pipes so they blend in with the walls. Those are the least of your problems. Just make them disappear with paint.

--Replace window curtains with bamboo shades.

--Build/install shelving entirely across the wall with those cabinets. Just get rid of the cabinets. Then run a curtain rod across the wall and hang ceiling to floor curtains in an attractive pattern. Store absolutely everything on those shelves and nowhere else, using clear bins to organize your stuff. Don't have anything out at all, not even a shoe!

Notice how this curtain is hung. Do something like this only in front of a wall of shelves of shelves on the wall where you now have cabinets.

This idea but with shelving all the way across and deep enough to hold bins at the bottom for your laundry products and to organize misc. stuff . . . after you declutter.

--Put a skirt around the utility sink.

Great question, FABULOUS answer! I'd replace the sink too. But I'd be more than happy that it's actually a basement laundry room, it doesn't have to be all Pinteresty and over-the-top, just clean, bright, and functional! What a fun project!

You could embrace the pipes and go with an industrial type theme. This means don't hide them, but paint them - as suggested above.

This room is serving a lot of purposes. A few questions:

1. Do you have a budget range in mind or are you in the idea-gathering stage?

2. Is it a basement room? Would you like to see out the window when you are in there? A photo showing the view out the window with the curtains open all the way would be useful.

3. Please add a floor plan with measurements, including where the sump pump and other pipes are, and the placement of the window and doors.

Currently at idea gathering stage, not much of a view from the window, flexible on window options, hope drawing helps!

If it's in the budget, I'd do cabinets wherever you can. Above the washer and dryer so you can have as much soap as you want. :-) Or do 2 smaller ones with a hanging rack in between. Also a tall cabinet to put brooms and such in and regular cabinets with countertop in the corner for more storage and folding. Moving the freezer over closer to the door. You can sometimes get great deals on used cabinets on craigslist when someone is redoing a kitchen. Probably on facebook marketplace as well, but that gets difficult to sort through. Instahanger's are nice for hanging clothes and then folding away as well. Sorry, I did not see a dimension for the long side, so this is a guess:
