The way the sepal forms a kind of skirt around the pepper is a pretty reliable indication that this is Capsicum frutescens. The most commonly grown variety of these is Tabasco.

A lot of people in Louisiana and Mississippi like to pick some of them green like your photo, put them in a bottle, cover with white vinegar and then after macerating for a few weeks use a a condiment on collards, turnip greens, green beans, etc. As they ripen on the plant they will start turning orange and become hotter. When fully ripe they will be dark red and very hot just like the popular Tabasco Sauce made by McIlhenny Co.

thanks for the feedback steverino and farmerdill. ive had 2 or 3 people tell me its tabasco but i don't believe it for the same reasons as farmer dill mentioned. I think its a type of thai chilli. i will mention it was very very slow to grow this year and was a 3 feet tall and 2 feet wide bush before it began to flower and now i have more peppers that i know what to do with.

i will wait and see if they continue to change color, though i doubt they do. but i will update if i see any changes. appreciate all the feedback, i hope we can find an ID just for the sake of it!

garybeumont, i just saw your post. thanks for that feedback, i have heard others on my plant group mention banana pepper, and if indeed they are my daughter will be very very happy! She loves those! Okay so from today onwards, i will not pick them and we will wait and see what happens!

thanks agmss15! i also thought of thai chilli, but the color of mine is more greenish yellow rather than the orangey ones you suggested.

i have been keeping an eye on them and so far they seem to stay the same length and havent really gotten to be as big as a banana pepper. i have shared with friends and they have all said they are spicy!!!

The yellowish-green seems to be the unripe color, they should ripen to a deeper color if you let them. The do not get large enough for a hot Banana. They seem longer and pendulant so they don't seem like Tabasco. They seem like a small cayenne that starts out yellow-green.

I'm growing a Golden Cayenne pepper and that one looks very much like it, except mine stay the regular darker green color and the beautiful golden yellow just seeps in gradually. It isn't light green like yours though. But I'm convinced that yours is some variety of Cayenne.

Hi guys, i wanted to post an update on the peppers. so it seems as though they did turn orange like one of the posters mentioned. However they started drying up once they made it to that point, sometimes before. i tried to pick them at the light green stage as they got long and plump like the picture above. the second photo has a picture of all of the orange ones on the whole plant. it has gotten really cold here so i don't expect more peppers this season. i still don't have an exact ID but my neighbors loved them so i think i will try to grow them again next year and maybe ask the nursery where i got them when i stop by there next season.
