How would you redesign this tiny kitchen?

I'm considering a co-op apartment, which by all means looks nice, but the kitchen is cramped and small. I'm having trouble imagining how to renovate this kitchen. My first thought is to

1) move the refrigerator,

2) install a stove top oven and away from corner, or leave it where it is which would mean leaving the dishwasher where it is,

3) install new sink away from the corner,

4) remove the corner wall and counter, and putting new L shape counter around the refrigerator (with cabinets underneath the island?)

Is this doable? How much would it cost for this type of renovation in NYC? Assuming I would have to get new counters and maybe cabinets.

Appreciate any advice!

I renovated the kitchen in my co-op but kept the same footprint. I believe it can be harder to get approval for a wet over dry renovation (bathroom or kitchen above a dry area of your downstairs neighbor’s apartment). I’m not sure if just moving the refrigerator would count as “wet” but it’s a question I would ask. I believe approval was also simpler because it was technically a “replacement,” not a “renovation” because we were basically swapping everything out - even though it a complete renovation including a new floor, everything was replaced item for item and for some reason this required a lesser level of approval. Of course every building is different but that was my experience! Basically I would try to get some answers on what’s possible and what is required for approval. But don’t let me scare you about the approvals - I‘ve actually done two renovations in my co-op and both turned out great and went pretty smoothly.

If you could just remove the small portion of wall that’s perpendicular to the front door and move the half wall/countertop island further into the living room, that would give you a lot more usable space in the kitchen and a less complicated renovation. definitely not an expert but hopefully my perspective from living in a co-op is helpful!

By giving up dining space, your living area will feel cramped, and it creates more useless hallway space. I would leave the kitchen layout as it is but with some small modifications. Place a large tall cabinet on the bare wall directly across from your dining table. Use it for kitchen storage (pantry, dishes, whatever). It will free up cupboard space in your kitchen allowing you to remove the small storage unit in front of the fridge. It is hard to gauge the size of the fridge because the pictures are very distorted, but if you can, purchase a counter depth fridge. Enlarging the doorway into the kitchen by removing all or part of the little wall opposite the fridge will also make it less cramped.

If you can tolerate counter-height seating and give up a table (and if it's possible to move the plumbing), you could put the sink and an 18" DW in a peninsula, with the fridge against the chase, and the range on the wall to the left. I would use a range, rather than separate cooktop and oven, and as much as I dislike an OTR MW, in this case it would save space.
