This is the landscape DESIGN forum. The word setting is meant in a DESIGN sense and all that that entails. Horticultural reality then gets thrown on top of that.

Horsetail is extremely invasive where I live and I would never plant it in the ground.

Horestail, Equisetum species, are extremely invasive just about anywhere other than a desert setting. I'd never consider planting them in the ground!

There is a house near me with 8 feet of horsetail hedge in front of its porch. It looks pretty cool. Very modern looking. Every few days there are shoots of it all over the yard. Maintenance nightmare.

The green spire isn't especially modern looking unless you shape it
