You don’t need to strip the interior of a carcass . Is it paint? On wood? Clean it / scuff it 150 or 180 grit / two coats primer and semi gloss with a good brush get in the corners use good trim / cabinet paint . I’ve done this . Areas where the paint is uneven or gunked and bothers you sand it down a bit more . Looks like a wood cabinet and not many layers just prep the surface and paint

Will that be effective if the current paint wipes off with just a wet cloth? im not sure how old the paint is so i thought it would be safer to strip. I'm worried if i start priming after sanding the red paint will still bleeding through

Why is the paint wiping off ? Is it a tinted top coat which is bubbling and peeling . Paint should never just wipe off . If there is a shelf or something removeable take it in to a paint store . It’s hard to tell from the picture.

I'm not sure why it wipes off so easily. I've been trying to figure out what kind of paint was used. I've been here for 7 years and the people before me we're there for 5 years. I asked if they knew anything about it and they said it was there when they moved in. They are very old 1940s cabinets, but I'm just not sure when the insides were painted.

I have used marine stripper on old (very old) varnishes on wood . ( it is a little stronger so it goes faster) . If it is a few cabs maybe efficient stripping ( wear a mask and gloves and air circulation w open windows ) but 12 or 15 cabs or more I’d really have a paint store pro have a glance.

When I’ve used CitriStrip and I’ve just cleaned up by rinsing with water and sanding after first doing a thorough scraping. That looks like a very intense job. Before you start, be sure to test that paint for lead.

The juice isn’t worth the squeeze here. At all. The result isn’t worth the work. Replace them. Months and months of work with lead paint precautions followed isn’t worth it for those old cabinets. Replace them. There is no up side to this. Replace them.
