I’ve not grown them indoors but I don’t think they’d be successful, mainly due to lack of light. However, what have you got to lose other than the price of a pack of seeds. You’d need to get a small cultivar. Mine cover many yards of ground.

do you want to give them a head start for outdoors in spring ....

or grow them as a houseplant??

i always thought of them as an annual ... are there perennial versions????

They’re perennial, Ken. But they die at temps below freezing.

They’re definitely perennial botanically speaking. And the nasturtium in question is Tropaeolum majus, I’m sure. But they’re treated as annuals in places with cold winters. They cannot take frost. I always thought nasturtium was a perennial, so it's interesting to know that it's considered annual by some, depending on the location and type. As for growing it indoors, I want to grow it for the pleasure of growing it indoors if it's possible. I know that most people only grow nasturtium inside 4-6 weeks before transplanting them outside post-frost.

There are botanical definitions of annual and perennial and Nasturtiums (Tropaolum majus) are the latter. They are often called annuals in the garden trade because they will die at a hint of frost and have to be sown every year. But if there’s no frost they’ll keep on growing year round. They don’t die after producing seed like true annuals.
