Hoping you can help clear something up. I'm primarily restricted to container gardening for various reasons. When I read about container gardening, it's often emphasized to use dwarf varieties. Makes sense, you usually want a smaller tree when growing in a container. But I've also heard, albeit much less frequently, that dwarf rootstock really doesn't matter in container gardening. The container will limit the size of the tree. Dwarf rootstocks are important when trying to control the size of a ground planted tree. This also makes a lot of sense, and would be great if true because many things I would like to grow aren't really available to me in dwarf varieties.

What is your experience, is there a benefit to having a dwarf vs traditional variety when growing in a container?
