Converting attic to ART STUDIO

So we have limited space so I’m interested in converting my attic to an art studio. I don’t need to put in much (or any) furniture and the floor seems very sturdy. The last owner put wood planks down on half of the attic But the other half just shows the rafters (joists?) Can I just put some more planks down and work up there? Is

it structurally sound enough to put an easel and work up there. Here are some pics of the ceiling and where it attaches at the base. I will tak

Nice idea! My sister lived in a little rowhouse and did this with her attic (with my help.) We were able to install a skylight to help with the natural light. Some attics have a roof hatch (hers did ) and that made the perfect place for it to go.

One thing I would suggest thinking about is a sink. My sister paints and there is no point in making an art studio without a place to wash brushes. That made things a bit more complicated but not impossible.

I have a very similar space over my attached garage. I added knee walls with small built in cabinets. That space is worthless otherwise. Without knee walls, you will constantly bump your head bending down to pick stuff up where the ceiling meets the floor. As others mentioned, skylights are an excellent idea. And a Brazilian-style hammock is a must!
