Hello, here's an earlier Houzz post that asks a similar question. It has a couple of opinions, but the most valuable one is your own https://www.houzz.com/discussions/3700620/matte-or-polished-floors-with-high-gloss-cabinets

depends. depends on what every looks like, the type of house, lighting, adjoining rooms, etc.

If you have a very modern type of house and furnishings, it would be fine. If you have a simple tract home w/ u shape kitchen and 7' ceilings, No.

Hi, we are building a new home. It has a great room and all floors in the home will be the same. Furnishings are modern. Kitchen high gloss white facing north west with 7 sliding glass doors across the entire back of house.

I think I need to see your furniture too often what someone thinks is modern is not. High gloss cabinets I love but high gloss floors are not only in your face but often just too much with a lot of windows.Reflections are often not pleasnat to live with. I don’t agree in fact I think if you had 7’ ceiling the gloss floors would be awesome. Can you at least post pics of the cabinet style and the floor choice. Of course you also need to know what you plan for counters

Hi, thank you, the ceiling is 11 feet high...there are 38 feet across of sliding glass doors in the great room. The kitchen is across the room from the sliding doors which face north west. I will try to get a pic.

those polished floor tiles and the high gloss cabs, would prob give you something like this

(although, I would use more of matte tile. those polished tiles and water can get slippery. plus, it reminds me of bathroom tile)

polished tile, but it's a warmer natural stone instead of the marble.

Here's a matte marble floor tile, below:

I think something like this looks better. bring in a warmer floor option

    I love this one.

it's modern, but it's also warm because of those floors. Save the marble tiles for the bathroom

I definitely agree with Beth, the wood floors instead of high gloss make it look a lot more comfortable. Usually doing high gloss on the floor and on the cabinets looks best in a home that is already styled to be very modern.

I went to an open house in the summer and with the air conditioning running and the door opened frequently, the floors had condensation. After a few of us slipped and almost fell, the realtor had to lay towels all over the floors. It wasn’t a good look. Something to consider.

I like high gloss floors in kitchens, but not with white high gloss cabinets - better to use some color in the cabinets and be a bit less boring.
