Help with dining room wall

This has been a long time coming. This is the first room that everyone sees when they come in. I’d like a mirror on that wall so it can reflect the sliding glass door opposite of room. I’m just not sure what size. I need an idea to replace that temporary TV console and different color chairs to put at the end of the table. Attached is a painting I really like that I’ll probably replace the elephant pic but it includes my fall and summer colors that I like. Lastly will be an area rug but that’ll be at a later post eventually. Thank you!!

I would install the same curtain panels on both the window and sliding doors.

I would start by creating ideabooks with dining rooms you like as inspiration.

After new console/ mirror, maybe a plant in the corner, or maybe an 'arty' screen.

Dark table but I wouldn't add more dark furniture, but small items maybe. This toasty light look might add to floor/ chair color. Add great color lamps?

Have 2 identical it's a sorta long wall?

Lamp only 24 tall, but nice metal?

I can't help but notice that ceiling fan. please, if you have to change anything, let it be that.

The art is fine, although the buffet should be taller if it's sitting underneath it. Art should be hung 4-6" above a console or buffet.

That elephant pic is far to small for that big wall. think about getting it matted and framed in a larger frame and hang it on the appropriate wall.

here are the lilies, with a new light

I gave you this light, but anything similar will work.

That red buffet is nice. If you go this route, then do a more neutral type of rug.

w/the red buffet, your curtains, new lights, do a simple jute rug.

I'd also consider painting that stark white door. paint it the same color as your wall.

Although, this over dyed red/orange rug would look really nice in that room

See this color in the pic? something like this would look great w/your flooring and curtains.

bring in a vibrant rug that plays w/the curtain color If you are going to stay w/your current console.

everdebz,,,you don't like the red buffet choice any longer? I thought it could have worked.

But I also like the reflective mirror/console too.

Beth, I just wondered about the X design, but hey if it's an option, I'm glad you said so. I don't see dressy-dressy, if floor has authentic age to it, etc....what style is table, with 'heft'...

I like this better - persimmon is less at $976. Click to see persimmon, etc....

yes, I see the diff. I do like the color though. With that dark table and otherwise void room, the persimmon color buffet would add some interest.

or, do the brown color and bring in the colored rug.

What's so special about the sliding glass door that you want to double its reflection? If it isn't interesting or beautiful, you don't need to repeat it with a mirror. Other elements, as suggested above, would do more for your room.

Thank you all for the feedback! er612 I will definitely change the the curtain panels so they’re the same. Celery I have an idea book but never thought to go back and check since I’ve been off this site for a hot minute. Everdebz love the area rug option and the plant in the corner if I can find one that can survive my grey thumb. I’ll definitely get on that search. Beth H. I appreciate your visual input!!! I can put things into prospective. Love the advise about console height and yes-ceiling fan must go!!! I have a chandelier from Restoration Hardware that I’ve been eyeballing but I should see if it’s on this site for something more affordable. Decoenthusiaste I’ve never thought about doubling the reflection. I was short sighted in thinkin just bringing in more light. Now I know that it’s not necessary.

Don't forget to paint that white door the same as the wall color. or something darker. (and if you really want an upgrade, paint out the oak trim and baseboards.

That I can do easily! I’ll do that one and the front door that ppl come in. That trim is throughout the house and it drives me crazy.

    last modified: 6 years ago

oh that one is the front door? ok.

what if you moved the buffet console to the other wall? seems like where it's at it's blocking the walkway a bit? maybe move it and the chairs to the other side?

since this room is somewhat by itself, if you painted the trim in here, could that be done ok?

Try painting both doors first and see how it looks.

At the very least, paint the trim around the windows. you already have the white from the blind valance there, do the rest of the window trim (after you paint the doors!)

Don't you love all this extra work I'm giving you? lol

Why are visitors walking into a dining room?

Was this intended as the living room?

Is there no other location for dining?

Additionally, in entering in parallel to the wall that you wanted to mirror, no one would be able to look into the mirror unless they were coming in from the other room. I don't think we know the complete story here. Time for more pondering on this room IMO.
