Floor plan Help (PIC) REMOVE living room for a bigger master bedroom?

House is 250 feet set back on 3 acres.

Currently you enter into a smaller living room, which flows to a kitchen and then a family room at the back of the house.

I want to turn the front bedroom into a bigger bedroom with a master suite.

My idea is to pop the bedroom wall out and encompass the front bay window into the master bedroom. Yes, it would have a bay window in the master, and it'd be in the front of the house, but we are setback far on a dirt road with lots of land.

We'd lose the natural light from the bay window in the entrance, but can add lighting in the new foyer.

This way the living room gets shrunken into an oversized foyer, which flows to the kitchen and then back to the ONLY family room/living room at the back of the house.

Would you do this, if having a large master bedroom with an ensuite was important??

If you have no use for a living room, this would make sense & increase the value of your home. I would look at your layout of the bath & the entry to the master to incorporate a much larger closet (WIC) in lieu of the single closet you show now. You could do this by moving the entrance to where you current hall linen closet is now located & reverse the current master closet into the hallway for the adjacent bath. This would allow the whole left corner of your plan for a WIC and a full master bath.

I have no idea what your family situation is--empty nesters, a young couple, a single person, a family with a couple small children or teenagers. Are you absolutely certain that you would never want to have two separate living/lounging spaces--a den and family room, a music and family room, a quiet retreat and a place where the tv is on?

Do you ever plan to sell this house? If not, then do what works for you. If you think you may sell in the future, then I think there are better ways to get a master suite.

You could combine the two end bedrooms and add a bath at the back where you already have plumbing. That would make for a quiet master suite with cross ventilation.

Or you could turn your family room into a master suite and eliminate the front bedroom, creating a larger living room.
