baking area suggestions

I fell in love with this backsplash and am planning my kitchen around it. Cabinets will be white and counters will be white with subtle gray. This backsplash will go up wall behind range vent hood. I am trying to figure out what to do in baking area. My stand mixer will go in corner and all baking needs will be stored here. Should I take backsplash all the way around window and put small open shelves to right of window? Or all the way across at level of cabinet? If I do that, what color wall paint above? I have to decide on a light for this area by Wednesday when electrical will be done. Gooseneck light or two above window or LED canned lights in ceiling above counter? I may have to move light switches based on backsplash plan as light switch is currently on right about 52 inches up from floor. Would love to hear your ideas.

That’s pretty but really busy to have so much of it. It needs less, not more. And a solid no pattern counter.

You might want to do a sample board with your grout choice. Glass tiles look different with light blocked from the sides by solid grout. Also the color of the thinset or mastic might change the look of the tile. Better to know the final result before you plan your kitchen around it.

I also need to see the space . I think those tiles behind a range will be a constant PITA to keep clean and open shelves in a baking space will always be dusty since everytime you bake flour dust will float around. I think you need to have a much better handle on the function of the whole space . The glass tiles are pretty but very busy and IMO too many grout lines for a kitchen. Make sure when you post any pictures they can be enlarges too.

Well it is too late to change my mind. I already own it and planned kitchen around it. Counters are almost solid. Very subtle. Just waiting for cabinets to arrive. I have had back splashes before with small pieces and never had a problem. I am a neat cook. Maybe I will just keep it to the range area only. Good point about the shelves Patricia. I will think of something else to put there. I saw this in a tile store with a white grout and really loved it. It does look different against my current counter which is currently beige

Get your cabinets and counter tops installed 1st as it will allow you a better visual where to put the tile. If you still aren't sure at that point, post photos. I had a kitchen a few years back with a glass backsplash and lots of grout and even though I cook a lot, make messes, cleaning was never an issue. And the grout was fine as I used one that deters staining. I would have it again with no second thoughts.

Thanks Ted. You made me feel much better about it. I have never had a problem either. I see a lot on Houzz with similar grout lines. The only reason that I am thinking about placement now is because I may need to move light switch. I guess I can always move it later if need be.

Also, the good news is, I went to the lighting store today and they helped me to pick a light. I am going with one wall light above window.

I'd take it all the way up, but without a picture, it's hard to say.

this is what it will look like, more or less

Very pretty, Beth. I would also take it to the ceiling. Christine, what color is the KA?

I’m sorry Momma goose. I don’t know what KA is? I will guess - kitchen appliances? Stainless steel

Another point about a baking spot it is nice to have a lower counter if you do pastry or bread.
