I love the look, but in my area even with our water softener (due to regular changing of wells used from our rural water provider) it would show water spots and hard water stains and probably soap scum and be too hard to maintain. The floors outside tub/shower would be less of an issue for me as the hard water wouldn't reach there. Yes any light lint would show up and dust will be fairly easy to see, but if you love the look it may be a sacrifice you are willing to live with.

Buy a few black tiles to prop up in your current shower. Leave them there for a week and see if you enjoy cleaning them. If it takes you ten minutes a day to clean a black tile shower, that's 2.5 days a year just cleaning the tiles. Only you can decide if that's how you want to spend your time.

I have a honed black marble floor. I squeegee it after every shower. not a big deal. If I didn't? yes. water marks. but I have skylight right above this so it's very bright and highlights everything.

what is a big deal is what the hard water does to dark grout. eventually turns the grout a whiteish gray (but it's only in the corner areas that stay wet the longest. You could always wiped down the corners after each shower ;)

and yes to a matte finish. glossy will always show more water spotting

You would want to have a whole house water softener. And excellent lighting.

Black is very dramatic, but all black would be dark IMO. These pictures are taken by professional photographers with special lighting, so of course they look bright and beautiful. But in a real house, it might be hard to get the same look.

I am not a designer, but I'd say that in the first picture, there's no contrast between the color of the curb and the color of the bathroom floor and shower floor. That's not safe because as people age they need some contrast in the colors to be able to see the edges. It's a tripping hazard. In the second picture there is a white floor, but the curb is not shown in the picture, so no way to tell if there is contrast. Visually I think the white floor works better to brighten things up.

very pretty, and very impractical. have you considered charcoal grey instead? you'll still get the drama, but with less headache. white grout discolors, and dark grout builds a white film (even in dry areas -- due to dust and makeup powder). I feel like medium grey grout might be the easiest to maintain if you don't want to scrub your bathroom constantly.

How the heck would you see to shave your legs -- especially with your glasses off!

Looks like a dungeon and not in a good way.

A big complaint among people that have tile showers is that the mold turns the grout black. You may have solved that problem.

We’re in the process of rebuilding and I wanted a black matte shower with a marble bench. That’s exactly what we have but it is so covered in construction dust from the trim work that we’re doing so it’s hard to really envision the true beauty. I love it just my opinion of course.😊

This is only my personal opinion, and this is an old post, but a black tile only looks good while holding it in your hand.

Southern Style,,, that does look good. I remember when My black marble floor looked like that. Be very very careful w/cleaning products and use a very good sealer.
