Can I use 30 amp outlets for heated floors

Looking to add heated floors down the line for the downstairs of my 350 sqft condo.

I currently have lose 30 amp wiring in the wall from base board heaters that I have removed.

For now to be safe I have disconnected them from the breaker.

My thought is that I would add a 30 amp outlets with the intent on powering new heated floors.

In my brief research it would seem I probably only need 15 amps. Would it be possible to use the current 30 amp wiring, swap the 30 amp breaker with a 15 amp breaker. Add outlets and proceed with floors?

Just trying to think of the best way to take advantage of the lose wiring with specific intent of doing heated floors in the future.

Using a larger wire gauge than the ampacity requires isn't a problem as long as you can make the connections. You need to follow the instructions for the floor mats you are intending as to what they want for a breaker. I suspect you will need to downsize to 15A or whatever.

I agree with both of you, especially about the thermal lag. I have hydronic radiant heat (as my primary heat source) and it takes long enough to respond that I don't bother to change it (unless I'm leaving for more than a day).

I could easily have 2 dedicated lines. Both we're the 30 amp lines going to old base boards. I live in a condo that is only about 350 sq ft. I currently heat with just an oil radiator. It often gets too hot (for me) even in the winter.

Electric baseboard heaters with 30 amp breakers are usually 240 volt. Make sure you get the wiring correct if you go for 110 volt in-floor heating with 15 amp breakers.
