BIG pot. This is an aggressive grower. If planted in the ground, you'd need two at most, but the container will keep it smaller. If you buy a #1 you can plant that so that the crown is at soil level, which would be the minimum depth. If a #5 you can cut off the bottom 6" or so of the rootball if depth is an issue. But if you're planting in a container, it doesn't matter. I don't think that this is a very good plant for a container, but it should be do-able.

Floral, does your asiaticum bloom. I got one last year by mistake (vendor's) and am wondering if I can somehow coax it into blooming next spring/summer. It appears that it does not bloom in warmer climates at all but my climate might be just on the edge.

Mature size for jasminioides growing in ground can be more than 20' tall and wide.

My asiaticum rarely blooms And I’m certainly not in a hot climate. I discovered that is quite common .... after I got it. However it makes a nice glossy evergreen screen for a drainpipe. It could easily grow to 20 feet but we keep it within bounds. Cutting back does it no harm. I’ve got some cuttings of jasminoides started and one day I’ll get around to swapping them.

jasminoides of course bloom readily. I have been scouring the internet to figure out what makes asiaticum bloom or not and the only info out there is that they need cool summers to bloom and someone in southern France had them blooming readily. Mine is growing in a gallon pot and may have to be abandoned if it cannot bloom. I have no use for an unproductive space hogger. :)

My summers are vastly cooler than the south of France, which in my book has baking summers and mine rarely produces a flower. I keep it because it is a glossy leaved, evergreen vine which is always in good condition and which very effectively hides a drainpipe.

Thanks floral. I just transferred it to an 8“ terracotta pot, which should keep it cooler. Who knows what the secret to blooming trachelospermum asiaticum is. If it hasn't bloo by fall next year it will be abandoned. :)
