Sink advice - Is Kohler Cairn a low-divide sink?

Our fabricator encouraged a Blanco for a composite, but their supplier does not offer the rectangular low divide. She recommended the Cairn as a substitute. The description says it has a slim divide. I don't think that's the same? Thanks for any insights!

Fabricators rarely provide sinks that are anything but the cheapest ones, or ones that were unloaded by a manufacturer or re-seller due to poor sales. Fabricators fabricate counters, and that should be all they do. Their offers to throw in sinks with the counter installation are for goodwill with their customers. Except that the customers could get a sink they’d like better on their own.

Decline the fabricator’s sink. Buy your own sink that you would like, in whatever material or configuration you’d like. Just make sure the sink you like is the right size for your sink base cabinet. (if you are looking at composite sinks, I recommend the BlancoDiamond Silgranit Super Single with the superior corner drain, in one of the dark colors, not one of their light colors. It does require a 36” sink base cabinet.)

We are considering the Blanco Precis 1.75 low divide. Can you comment on how you like it if you have installed it? Are the dimensions correct on the Blanco website? I've seen a couple of reviews online that say the dimensions are wrong but they don't clarify how they are wrong. We will have a tight fit with this sink so I'm trying to sort out if it is even an option for us. Thanks!

You may disregard sink manufacturer's cabinet dimension recommendations without worry. A 36" sink undermounts in a 36" cabinet, a 33 in a 33, a 27 in a 27, etc. Sink manufactures want to provide space for fat plumber hands to tighten their provided leaking sink clips. Please throw the provided clips in the trash where they belong and strap your sink in place. Hercules Universal Sink Harness (BB Industries), Sink Strap (Regent Stone Products) please; neither leak or fail and access is easy.

I'm not crazy about the Blanco composites; I've replaced too many cracked and faded leakers:

Thanks for the reply Joseph! I am getting a bit confused about if the rim dimension also has to fit inside the cabinet dimensions. Our outer cabinets are 33" but the inner dimensions are 31.5". There are lots of sinks that are less than 31.5" but often the rims are 32-33". If we need to replace a sink down the line, we don't want to have to remove the countertops! You are making us think twice about the composite sinks...

I can’t speak to how it will fit in your cabinet or it’s durability. We have had ours in since right before Christmas. I love it so far! Super deep and the low divide gives me enough separation to stack clean dishes in the sink- not on the counter. Good luck with your decision!

You don't have to remove the countertops to change a sink. I do this every day. A 33" sink undermounts into a 33" cabinet without removing the countertop.
