Good accent colour fo F&B pigeon.

last modified: 5 years ago

My bedroom and built in wardrobes are painted in F&B pigeon. I love the colour but it looks a little gloomy at the moment as the only thing in the room is a brass/black metal bed and an oak chest of drawers, the floor is oak. I'm really struggling to find an accent colour, for textiles and a reading chair, nothing seems to look right. I'd love some suggestions, or even better, photos of pigeon with different accent colours. Thanks.

F and B says it's a blue grey but it's all over the place in photographs. What's going to work with Pigeon in your room depends on lighting, floor tones etc. You could post a photo of your room which might elicit more help.

You've probably looked at Farrow & Ball's complimentary paint schemes on their site. If your room is dark though, maybe yellows and saffron tones are one possibility.

The first is Pigeon walls, the second an unidentified blue grey paint.

It’s all over the place in real life too 😂
Sometimes it looks grey, sometimes blue/grey sometimes green or green/grey.

I think it’s more green than blue though.

    That's what I thought, Paula.

I wouldn't focus on looking for Pigeon ideas, then. Maybe search for grey green photos. These are all Revere Pewter shots.

edit: added photos to try and show how much the colour changes according to the light.

    Such a nice colour! 😍
Is that a rug you have rolled up? Will you be using it?
I think much lighter bedding for sure. I’ll try to look around but hopefully some people with a good eye chime in

Not a rug, it was the fireplace mantel for downstairs. There's really not much in there as I'm really struggling to decide what to do. I want bedding, rug, reading chair, bedside tables, not to mention pictures, lamps, and little decorative pieces.

I might go for purples or rusty reds as an accent color (maybe both!) for this color. Definitely needs a pop of something to keep it from being dreary. A couple of inspo photos:

I think you get better hits on Pinterest:

The darker one is apparently a greener version of Pigeon from F&B but wanted to show you black framed artwork with lots of white space.

Also the Chris loves Julia blog has quite a few pics. Search ‘office’ on their blog

Hi - F&B Pigeon is a near neutral greyed colour from the Green-Yellow Hue Family.

ALL low Chroma (near neutral) colours from this Hue Family neighbourhood, are prone to shifting blueish in imbalanced lighting.

The impact of varying qualities of light upon Pigeon, is the reason why there are differing opinions about the colour. To some it will appear an almost neutral grey, others will see more of its inherent greenness and others get moments of blueness.

Knowing to which Hue Family belongs helps to direct the possible colour harmonies one could make with it. Here’s just one suggestion.

    A Split-Complementary palette from the

    Yellow-Red, Green-Yellow & Blue-Purple Hue Families.

    Oak floor (Yellow-Red), Pigeon (Green-Yellow), chair (Blue-Purple)

P.s. Have you seen the Designer Abigail Ahern’s Instagram account?

She vlogs from her own home. Her kitchen & living room have all kinds of colours but only taken from 3 Hue Families.

She incorporates dark, medium, light tones, greyed-out and richly saturated jewel colours.

Do you think either of these would work?

I like the top one with the Red-Purple accents. 🌈

    And the bottom one too.

    I like the first one

I agree, any of those would be pretty with Pigeon.

I especially like the bottom one because I think it ties in to your lovely view. Its flower colors give you lots to work with. Pretty!
