Update stray dog

mentioned dog 2 yrs. ago

after 2 1/2 years this dog is still alive

my wife feeds it every day

couple months ago she finally got to touch / pet it...even sits / gives paw

so now with weather changing, some has to be done

she was able to slip collar & leash on & bring into basement

we will contact a dog rescue place to help us but we will probably adopt anyway

Take to a vet to get checked out, vaccinated etc. For instance the one I adopted turned out to have kennel cough - a serious condition - that I didn't pick up on myself. (Well, I noticed the coughing but didn't know its significance).

Good luck, Ron. Agree you should take to a vet when you can, a friend adopted a rescued dog who turned out to be infested with Heartworm, and really needed medical help.

    what kind of dog

Yeah Ron, Mr. “show us a pic”. Where’s the pic?

So glad to hear you finally caught the dog......he or she?

Most dogs that act that scared usually come around quickly after they're caught and realize they are in a safe people with people they can trust.

Do get a checkup at the vet. Hopefully it's healthy and just needing love and a home.

    Kudos to your wife!

Nice move Ron, You won't regret it !

It is a noble move Ron! Kudos to you and your wife. But do get the dog vaccinated and check for worms, especially heartworms. If the dog does not have heartworms, I would suggest that you start Heartgard or Trifexis pills immediately. You can consult your vet to prescribe them or buy them from an online site like Petcarerx or Chewy. Good luck!

What a joyful story - I am feeling such gush of emotions after watching the video . Plantkiller, I hope that you and your wife can feel all the gratitude flowing your way from every reading of your story and viewing of the video. Your kindness and caring for this living being who crossed your paths and needed help is as heartwarming and inspiring as Lola being reunited with her family. Thank you so much for sharing this saga and for making today feel like a much brighter day!

I don't think the dog WAS beaten

maybe it was hit by a car or truck , and being frightened by everything was a survival response

she couldn't run , only scurry , and the scars on her back were from that

final thing on Lola .we talked to owners

she doesn't have worms , she doesn't have heart worm ,but she does have lyme disease..treateable I guess

    and broken tooth

    ron

    really .. Good morning america .. ?

Had to look up Lyme disease symptoms in dogs - I did know how it affects humans & how it’s transmitted - bitten by infected tick. TReatment is a long course of antibiotic. I wonder if this was the cause of Lola’s inability to run that you noted. Lyme disease causes painful & swollen joints & lameness. It sounds like she should be feeling lots better quickly. How wonderful to learn that her family is taking care of her properly and took her to be medically checked without delay. I am also happy to hear that they are keeping you updated on Lola’s progress. It’s amazing that these are the only real issues she has after all that time living on her own & outdoors. Ron, It seems your extended family has grown by 3 new members - Lola and her people! Thank you for sharing this update!

even being vaccinated for it, one of my dogs tested positive for lymes disease. it was confusing because the vet said she didn't actually have it but that she had been exposed to it. we did several weeks of doxycycline for it. she never did show any symptoms.

i'm so glad you are able to be in contact with lola's owners. this is just the coolest story! i shared it on facebook (w/o naming names, of course). a good friend of mine who lives in the area and has great danes said you and your wife are her neighbors. her first name is lynn. small world!!!
