should i spray paint my egg chair?

Should i spray paint the egg chair? Does the wicker stand stick out against the rest of the room? It is an indoor chair. I bought Rustoleum Metallic spray paint but would spray painting it metallic silver be too matchy? Can i even spray paint wicker and is rustoleum the best choice?

    Just a few comments.

    • Way too much stuff going on in this room.
    • I would not keep the egg chair or the bench at the end of the bed.
    • You can sit on the vanity stool or the window seat. The room looks like it could handle a convention.
    • I'm assuming the small chair next to the bed is for a pet???
    • The lamps are too small
    • The art above the bed could use some color and everything in the room has 90 degree corners, so something round could be a nice change.

Oh I love my book and wine at the end of the day too but I can’t imagine getting comfy in the egg chair. I would love to see you declutter and rearrange and get yourself a comfortable chair, an ottoman, and a side table with good lighting.

So want me to sit on a vanity bench to read? How is that comfortable? I got rid of the chair. That chair was were i sat and read. The egg chair replaced. The window seat isn’t comfortable for reading. I tried that for two years. It’s not good for my posture. I wanted something to read where i could relax. I know my bedroom breaks all kind of decorating rules and goes against “minimalism” but i use everything in the room and getting rid of stuff means i have to find somewhere to store them and right now, there isn’t a place. If i get rid of my vanity, I’d have to stand in the bathroom to do my makeup. I want it to be nice but it also has to be comfortable and practical. I spend 95% of my at home time in my bedroom. Does that make sense?

I won’t spray paint the egg chair though. I would leave it as is.

I do dee your point about the art. I will look for something round with more color

I can also get rid of the bench in front of my bed because you’re right, like the window seat, i don’t use it.

Nice space. Like the egg chair and would keep the egg chair as is.

Have you considered moving the sunburst mirror art behind the curtain rod to a position on the wall left of your tv above your fan?

Then, IF YOU want a change, you might consider spray painting the (?silver?) legs of the bench at the foot of your bed to be the same (?black?) color as your egg chair and replace the knobs of both your chest and dresser with larger black knobs.

I like your chair and you’re adorable. :)

You don’t have to keep defending how you use your room. You asked about the egg chair ... I agree with your decision not to paint it. I like the organic feel it brings in with the pretty glam.

Your room is lovely and looks very cozy!

Sues all, absolutely! I intend to get the tv mounted and i will move the sunburst clock or get rid of it. It looks awkward with the bar across it. Definitely agree we you. I just listed the bench on fb marketplace so i will get rid of that to declutter a little.m

Apologies, my auto correct mispelled your name Suezbell

Found these black ones in square and round -- but might consider favoring the round ones because of the egg chair.

I’m a book nerd lol. I read everyday. I’m either reading a book or watching a documentary.

I also got rid of the standing fan as that was temporary and my chandelier is actually a fandalier.

I’m open to getting rid of the vanity...... i just have to accept that i will be taking a serious loss on something that is practically new. Give me a few days to reconcile with this bitter pill lol.

Like the round white pillow. It is an interesting design.

Like your bedside lamps but if "declutter" is on your to do list, tall thin lamps with medium white shades tend to have less of a clutter vibe than a short lamp with the shade so low to the table/cabinet it seems to take up space on the table/cabinet. If you could de-clutter the top of your vanity, the shorter lamp might set there. If all three of your shades match, the lamps wouldn't need to match as well.

If you're getting rid of the bench anyway, you might consider adding a wheeled storage ottoman that would roll beneath your vanity, could double as a foot stool while you're in your egg chair and in which you could store the essential items now "cluttering" the top of your vanity, while still keeping them close at hand. Take some measurements and consider adding wheels if you cannot find a wheeled one you like.

Suezbell, decluttering wasn’t on my mind but now it is lol. I’ve also put the vanity and bench on fb marketplace to sell so that would go. So all that would be left is my bed, the two night stands, 2 new lamps, my tall chest, tv and egg chair

Totally agree with Jinx. "You don’t have to keep defending how you use your room."

If you use your vanity, keep it. You don't have to get rid of something because it doesn't meet the ridiculous notion that some people here have that a house should be a show piece instead of a place to be lived in and loved.

Same goes for your egg chair. I don't think it should be painted but I certainly wouldn't get rid of it if you love it. I too have a comfy chair in my bedroom for reading and wouldn't get rid of it no matter what anyone here said.

I guess I don't see why the tv can't be scooted down the wall either way with the vanity next to it. If you are reading a good part of the time, does it really matter if the tv is off center? I can't believe that you are always viewing tv from straight on.

Although it's hard to tell the wall space you have available, I would keep the vanity since it serves a purpose for you. I would move it into the place currently occupied by the chest of drawers. Perhaps tuck the egg chair into the corner previously occupied by the vanity. And maybe the chest would fit where the egg chair currently sits. The TV could move to the new chest location.

But if that doesn’t work, another option....exchange vanity position with chest. I think the chest would look better angled than the vanity and it looks as if you might have enough room for both those pieces to fit sliding down towards the door.

As to the number of pieces in your room, I think your room is charming and well-loved. It just needs a little editing of items which look cluttery.

For your tv, you might consider a wall hung arm that would let you move it in different directions so you either lie down or sit to watch it. With your tv on the wall (and off your chest of drawers) you could add a mirror on the wall above the chest of drawers.

If you're open to another suggestion ... you might consider adding a bracket above and between your two widows for a hanging metal basket in which you can set a flower pot ... perhaps with heart leaf philodendron in it.

I'm glad you decided to not paint the chair, the current color adds nice contrast. besides, metallic spray paint on wood texture usually winds up looking bad. save the silver paint for a different project, like a lamp or vase.

I like those mounting brackets Suezbell! And for your other suggestion, Can you show me an example of what you mean? I think i know but i wanna be sure i understand

Bluebird, i love that idea of moving the chest to where the egg chair is. Would i mount the tv over the vanity?

RNmomof2, i was only watching tv laying in bed because it was the most comfortable place to sit. I’m going to get rid of the vanity, move the egg chair in its place, mount the tv with the bracket Suezbell recommended so i can view the tv from multiple angles

Although such baskets are often used outdoors with only a peat liner, a sturdy metal basket (with a flat bottom in which you can set a flower pot with a drainage tray so it is level) can be hung from a wall bracket between a pair of windows and can work well for having plants in bedrooms because the two sets of drapes can close against the centered bracket. Having the basket separate from the pot means you can choose something other than the usual plastic hanging baskets with their risk of plastic hanging hooks eventually breaking. The metal ones can be spray painted black or any color you want to add to the room. The third basket on the third row on this page -- with wide metal slats -- would be my choice.

If you're going to mount the TV where the sparkly painting is, be sure it will fit, the closet door won't hit it, there's an electrical outlet nearby, and, if it's not connected via wi-fi, you have a way to connect it to your cable system or ISP.

Would the tv work mounted to the short wall now behind the right side of the vanity? \

On any wall, it might be easier to have a 1"x12" shelving board cut to the length of the width of the tv or at least to the length/width you need to be sure you attach the board to two STUDS and then add your tv stand to the board -- using screws to affix the tv bracket into wood studs rather than drywall for the strength needed to hold the weight of the tv.

Another idea worthy of consideration might be a portable tv stand. These would enable you to have even more flexibility as to the location of the tv -- even in a different room if you have guests over to watch a movie pr ball game, etc., -- but it would take up floor space.

    UPDATE Finished the room.

I like the way it turned out

I kept the art over the bed because i found that i love it. It’s intimate and makes me feel calm just looking at it plus it’s 3D so it’s also different.

Looks great! Thanks for updating us. :)

    It looks lovely. Enjoy!

It does indeed look very elegant, and just seems to be a nice, comfortable place to relax. It's also great that you know what you like and aren't afraid to be true to that. Well done!

looks great! I absolutely love your wall clock. is it vintage? since you said you were thinking about moving it, maybe it could go above the egg chair. I realize you have matching art there, but if you are ok with separating the pieces, maybe one could go somewhere else in your home?

ILoveMod, what about putting it above the TV? Closer pic of the clock or getting rid of it since i have the clock/alarm at my bedside. I really love those two pictures framing my doors

I think it would be too high up above the TV. keep that clock though! would it work in your kitchen or another room? It's so cool!

I would switch the clock, its blocked by your curtain rod. Don't you have an alarm clock for the time? I would put your grey throw draped across the bed close to the end of it, I liked your bedding the first way you had it, it had more interest IMO. In fact I liked how you first had the room but I thought you needed to simplify things. I don't think you need those prints on either side of your closet, they don't really do anything for your room and add to the cluttered look. Maybe as suggested put the clock over the chair. Big improvement with the dresser centered and tv above. Whatever is on the dresser wall, tape? you don't need that either. Not trying to be rude, I like your room a lot, just needs to be decluttered IMO. If you like it as is thats all that matters though, but you did come on here to ask so just giving my opinion.

ILoveMod, I’m gonna think on it. I do like the clock too......what about over the chest of drawers on the side?

Katrina, definitely not offended lol. I am very used to house and you will get 100 suggestions, i take the ones i like and use the others for lessons learned lol. For the bedding, i usually switch out my comforter set every month so the silver will make a reappearance. I have 4 sets that i rotate. Believe me, i agree with you that the clock will look better over the chair, i just really like the two paintings and the Art Deco wall. I always wanted one. So some things are style, and some things are just personal touches and things that i personally enjoy but i do appreciate all feedback because you could have chosen to bypass my post but you didn’t. I appreciate you :) i will move the throw and put it on the bed in the corner.i will also move the clock.

I like this..... I’ll sit on it for three days to see how i feel

Have you ever tried the taller dresser where the egg chair is, or would it impede the traffic flow? Just a thought. Then perhaps switch places with the egg chair. I think your round silver ottoman by the dresser would be nice in front of the egg chair, since its a rounded shape as well.

the clock above the dresser looks great!

that snake plant to the left is so cute! is it real? where did you find the pot?

Hey Katrina, it was a little wider than the wall space. That’s originally where i wanted the tall dresser to go plus it was five inches too wide. The round silver is my trash can, not an ottoman.

ILoveMod, the snake plant isn’t real but i want a real one. I tend to be a plant killer..... really a killer of all things live if left to me so i have to do fake. I got the pot and the plant from Nebraska Furniture Mart (www.nfm.com)

    last modified: 5 years ago

you might do ok with a real snake plant. they're very forgiving!

your faux one looks nice too. there are some types of plants that can be easily faked and actually look real. I'm good with plants but still have a few faux ones around, in rooms that are too dark for the real thing.

Replaced the art work. That was tough. It had to be something i like. Then i found this....... i love bridges. Have a few pictures around my home of popular bridges so that is what i got. I know you all won’t like the bedding but that is the only hotel quality bedding i have till i buy more. They seem to come only in whites. I’ve looked

I believe design choices need to be functional as well as aesthetically pleasing to YOU. Your room looks lovely. You clearly have an eye for design!

    I love that painting!

also, I think the white comforter looks fine for now. have you looked at duvet covers? that'll elevate the look. if you're open to a solid color, it won't be hard to find good quality. (besides, I like solid color duvets when they're paired with accessories that have other colors / textures --- like what you already have going on.)
