I had an Ikea installer come from West Palm Beach to Miami Beach for an Ikea install so where are you exactly? I would not hire just any contractor to do an Ikea kitchen since most of them will have never done one and will want to make the cabinets adjust to waht they think is better and that is never good.

I live in Providence. Did you have a local contactor do the rest of the remodel or did the ikea installer do the whole job?

You can ask Ikea and they will tell you if their installer can come where you live (I live near Worcester and they told us that they could not come, so who knows).

My understanding is that they install the cabinets (and can do some customization), but everything else has to be done by somebody else. Contractors where I live had clearly no idea of how to install these cabinets (or at least seemed unwilling to follow the guidelines). One of them refused simply to install them, so we ended up installing them ourselves (but we had the time for that)

Yes, same with us. We asked at the Stoughton store and they said they could not install in RI. This would be our second Ikea kitchen. For the first one, IKEA didn't own an installation company and provided names of certified installers who also acted as full contractors. The one we used isn't doing IKEA anymore since they don't get store referrals. Looks like I'll have too see if I can find a contractor willing to have someone else install.
