Petting your quilt fabrics

Hahahahahaa - nearly spit my coffee all over my screen reading that comment in a quilt post about taking your toile quilt fabric out on occassion and petting it.

Hahahahahahahahahaahhaa

Who doesn't do that with their fabrics?

Still can't drink my coffee...

The first time hubby took me to a Joann's on holiday from Canada, I went nuts. At that time our standard $7 Cdn quilt fabric was selling on sale $2.50 US - I WENT NUTS. This was somewhere just outside of Boston along the I95. He went next door to a computer store, had a coffee, came back to look for me. A cutting clerk saw him looking aimlessly about and asked him if he was looking for me (pointed at me). He nodded yes.

I'd go for another coffee dear, she has two tables cutting fabric.

$600 US later I finally left.

When we hit the customs at the border in the car I held up the world's longest cash register receipt at the border guard grinning so hard my teeth nearly popped out.

Laughing, he pointed to the office building telling us to go inside.

Happily I paid any extra tax. I blew my allowed tax free shopping and hubbies.

I knew hubby was a keeper!

Still sewing with that fabric today. I wish I kept that receipt. Silly me.

Ever since then when Hubby wants a shop tool I tell him to get it.

Looooovvveeeee fabric.

LOL! I often have to pet mine to get the cat fur off. Both my cats will open the door to the sewing closet then manage to climb up several shelves to lie on top of a pile of fabric.

Have to admit, I'm guilty, too. Why is looking with our eyes not enough? We know what cotton fabric feels like - in general. But not all fabric is the same. But even when I know the fabric is good, I still was to pet it if I really like the print.

Guilty, also! i have some fat quarter packs that I can't even bring myself to untie the ribbon on, let alone think of cutting for a quilt! Eye candy to see and feel!

I can't say that I pet them, but I love washing and ironing new fabrics. I love going through them. Hmmm... Maybe some petting is involved.

Maybe I had better get that toile out and let her read these responses and know she is not alone. Is fabric ‘feminine’?

Maybe you should. Let her know She's not alone. I can't image fabric being male. (Okay, any male quilters out there I'd love to hear your opinion.)
