I tried raising tomatoes from seed and in the FL winter for the first time this year. I germinated the seeds indoors in August due to the heat. My zone may be officially 9b but for the last 10 years our temps have basically been zone 10b. I potted them on and acclimatized them to the heat. They went in the ground the 3rd week of September as recommended by all the FL gardening sites found on the web. The temperature/heat index was too high to support pollination until the first week in November.

I have 25 tomato plants that are healthy and green but only about 10 fruits between them. The largest fruit is about tennis ball size. None have even the slightest tinge of red. They have been flowering all this time. The varieties are Mortgage Lifter, Better Boy and Rutgers.

I am conflicted because the beds the tomatoes are planted in are meant for flowers, I'd like to plant some allium bulbs there, but I want to give the tomatoes a good chance. With lower winter light levels and cooler temps expected in January and February, should I continue to fertilize and wait for fruit production? Or have I missed the window in October due to the high temps and should just move the bed on to the alliums?
