How's your progress?

would you make the laundry room accessible through the new opening as well as the hall in the house? Would you be taking the wall back 3' along the whole wall, or just in the shower area? I am thinking that a little higher threshold would be better than that example with the gray wall. I don't know anything about this topic. My neighbor built a large spare walk in shower for people and her large dogs, in the basement, lol.

I would think you would need a sturdy seat for the human to use if needed for comfort and as one ages. It could be portable, yet sturdy. The floor would need good traction for safety, cause I bet the floor gets wet. I have a 14" high bathtub in our bathroom/mudroom, that is a bit high for getting our resistant 35lb border collie into, but with a second helper she can be washed easily enough. So I wonder if a low tub would be a good way of providing a space for showering your dog. And it doesn't require the technicalities of tilting and sloping a shower floor, with all the expertise that goes into that for success. Do they sell dog tubs for installation? OR a large mop floor mounted sink might work too.

Thank you! I have someone coming to discuss/quote out some ideas in a couple weeks. I need something that he can climb in.. too big to pick up and I’m not sure he’ll climb stairs. I don’t mind bending over. Leaning towards the large mop sink on the floor with walls tiled.. or some sort of solid surround.

are you on a slab?

do you have an existing drain where you want this shower? If not, one will have to run from the waste line where the washer or sink is. if on a slab, it's a lot more work.

will you be hiring someone to do the tiling? rerouting the plumbing?

will you have to move the washer and dryer and reconfigure the entire room?

I think it's a good idea, but it's not a cheap one!

Hello! Not a slab.. most definitely hiring someone. I’m also getting quotes on a plan b.. which would be less costly. Leave my laundry room alone. In the garage.. I already have a floor/mop sink. If I take out the closet.. the dog bath could go there. All the plumbing/drain is already there.. I can post a photo tomorrow. The floor sink is a mess.. 25 years old and in need of being replaced. I’d rather wash my dogs inside.. but I’m thinking outside would be considerable less. I will post a pic tomorrow.. thank you for the responses!

Love those photos!! The first one Beth posted and the first one mdln posted are my fav’s! So here’s a couple pics of the garage.. the plan b. Either way I have to fix this disaster in the garage. It’s taken some serious abuse in 25 years. The laundry room is behind this closet.

How did you do the base/shower pan? It looks raised. How deep is the pan? The shower looks great.

Thanks! The base is just concrete with an epoxy coating. It’s 4 ft x 4 ft. Maybe a foot off the ground. Not great on the back.. I’m going to buy a bench. But it’s so great to have this for my messy dog! Rinsing paws.. And of course just regular garage stuff.

@Lisa - would you mind posting some additional photos of your doggie shower? I am interested in how the base was built. The photo isnt very clear on showing the details of the concrete base - how much of a curb it has, for example. Does it have a linear drain? Has the concrete + epoxy held up well? I assume that it has. Would you mind sharing the steps used to build - for example, the type of epoxy used. I would really like to finalize my doggie shower/wash station. My dogs are small - so, part of me is thinking of just using a single basin sink (as deep as I can find) that has an offset drain instead of a center one.

With all the work I’ve had done in my backyard (new paver patio + patio cover + additional landscaping) + Ella’s horrible habit of kicking up her back legs every time after she does her “business” = MUDDY paws that need to be washed off after every trip outside.

she’s been having WAY more trips outside each day (every time Baxter goes out, she wants to go out also).

I am tired of having to carry her directly upstairs after EVERY trip out + it’s difficult to not get some mud on myself in doing so!

Hello! I can post additional pics this afternoon. I won’t be much help in how it was built because I had a contractor. It’s probably 18 inches off the ground. The epoxy has held up great. Super easy to rinse out. Your dogs are darling! This thing has been a god send. I have an 80 lb golden that loves to roll around in the yard. It’s hard on my back.. but I recently bought a shower chair. Not attractive.. but it helps!
