Linear chandelier over square table?

Hi all :) Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. I acquired a square dining table and chairs and am saving up to buy the cellula chandelier. I have coveted this particular chandelier for decades. I am halfway towards my budget goal but am suddenly insecure about whether a linear chandelier would look good/okay over a square shaped table. Any feedback?

Generally, the width of the chandelier should be 1/2-2/3 of the width of the table. For the length, you should have at least 50% of the table length. If you have a long table 2 is common.

Can we see the table and the room?

Disclaimer: there is a lot of clutter that I still need to remove, like the empty bookcase with doors to the left of the sideboard. And the orange chair.

Here it is from the other direction

If this is the Cellula chandelier, then in this amateur's opinion the lamp is wrong in every respect: shape, colors, and style.

Thank you for the feedback. That was my gut feeling too :( I have wanted to buy that chandelier for years - I have not been able to find one that matches the absolute stunning fire of its crystals.

I hung a mirror over the buffet and we are reupholstering the chairs in a solid performance velvet. I have been thinking that because you see the light fixture from the foyer in the mirror and because there are so many competing wood tones etc... I think the chandelier I end up getting needs to be subtle. I am curious though about what you mentioned in the post about the guidelines for the width of the chandelier - linear chandeliers have almost no width?

A dining room with 10-foot ceilings can accommodate a chandelier 34 inches in diameter and 20 to 30 inches in length. The diameter of a dining room chandelier should be about one-half to two-thirds the width of the table over which it will be hanging (already mentioned in the previous comment).

Now talking about the style of the chandelier, just make sure it fits in your space and complements your decor! As you said you have different wood tones, this type of chandelier may help:

    Another suggestion:

If you go linear, than it would be based on the length of the table so if its a 48 inches you would want nothing shorter than 24 for example, you could go up to about 36 leaving about 6'' of the end of the table, it depends on how "full' the fixture is as well.

Seeing the space I am wondering what is the look you are going for? You have this fairly traditional space, with an iron railing, but this very contemporary fixture

I think maybe you are trying to get to a contemporary take on mid-mod?

before you dive into a light fixture I think you need the room to be a bit more complete, I would suggest an area rug to help break up all the wood tones and marry the room together

It is a work in progress... I think you hit the nail on the head when you said it looks like I am aiming for a contemporary take on mid-mod. i want to replace the railing with a lucite or minimalist railing but replacing the railing is pricey. For the first 2 decades of my marriage we had to live very frugally and so our furniture were an eclectic mix of hand me downs with no style. Now that we thank God are able to afford to redecorate somewhat I am trying to happily indulge of years and years worth of suppressed personal style expression! However, we still need to budget so I need to pick and choose what to update and replace hence the initial non- streamlined appearance. I think ultimately I will get the cohesive look together but I need to be smart about it.

I can’t do rugs :( cause we have pets :)

I have 2 great Danes, plenty of great pet-friendly rugs, plus much easier for them to walk on than hardwood...

Our Pekingese isn’t house broken yet and goes right to any rug we had :(

Yet is the key word here, I would not say no to rugs because pets can be trained just saying, eventually they will thank you for having them.........by not peeing on them but laying on them instead.

Problem is, how do you get the odor that tends to accumulate deep in the rug from the repeated peeing even with immediate cleaning?

LOL Potty pads and correction is the only real solution, however, there is a company called Rugables that makes washable rugs.

Hi, a square canopy chandelier will look best over your squared dining table.

    Below a very quick mockup.

Depending on the style you like we have many different handblown glass pendant designs to choose from.
