Yes, I would keep it. Wood is timeless, and it is also a much lower upkeep.

Voice of dissent, here. I think it is very heavy looking and I would remove or paint it the same color as the walls. The two-tiered ceiling moulding is sort of weird and cuts off the space visually instead of letting the wonderfully dramatic tall walls speak for themselves. Especially if you ever wanted to make your furniture more contemporary. Good luck on the decision!

Thank you! We are buying this house and this is the seller’s furniture. It is not my style and I’m tempted to paint everything white but the window trim. My husband is worried that once we paint it, we can’t go back.

Ok good - I hate that furniture but didn't want to say anything! It is a fantastic room but it actually looks like it might get northern light? It doesn't seem super bright. The dark wood isn't helping. I'd rip up the carpet and but down light wood floors and add contemporary furniture with warm elements but definitely paint the molding. Ask your husband if it was already blank, would he ever want to add molding like that? If the answer is no, then you don't need to preserve it.

Dont change much of anything. Maybe a coat of paint on a wall, etc, for at least 6 months. It takes that long to live in a house and know what you want to change. What you want to change before moving in, could change a whole lot in 6 months.

Personally I like the window trim but would lose the shutters and try to deemphasize the molding on the ceiling which does make it feel choppy.
