Thanks everyone. So here's what I did. I removed the outer gray container and kept it in the green plastic container (it has drainage holes). I then 'planted' it into the black square planter (which also drains), which has been sitting in the garage since fall with soil that is damp and cold. The spruce now has soil under, around and just a touch on top. It's sitting in the corner of the deck where it will be mostly protected, have natural light but easily accessible to pull into the garage (mostly dark) if temps get crazy. Here are the forecasted temps for the next week or so. Seems like I should be able to leave it on the deck 24/7 for now.
