Remove the the light kit, paint the rest. The light given off by these lights are harsh and unnecessary. use lamps for better lighting.

The light that is available from a ceiling fan is notoriously bad in any room. Most of us on this forum will recommend that the light for your room come from table and floor lamps.

Painting this fan I'm afraid will not fix the problems with the design of the fan. Here are some very inexpensive fans from HD.

This ceiling fan is in our kitchen and we really don’t have any other options for lighting. I would just like to revamp it enough for now so that it doesn’t look quite so terribly outdated.

I understand your criteria now. There are some new unique fans and lights for small areas that are out now.

I would

1. eliminate globes,
2. get Edison (not vintage yellow style but LED) bulbs instead,
3. paint all metal parts with metallic /satin bronze
4. and blades with flat black.

Melanie, the only thing I can post is that a finish I had of toasty-almond didn't 'show' such contrast with ceiling white, etc. I'd consider that and keep the glass parts which are good.

Looks like an expensive Casablanca fan with lacquered brass. Is there a label? There are shops that offer replacement glass for Casablanca fans. I suggest it would be easier to draw attention to another aspect of the kitchen rather than trying to make this classic style look contemporary.
