Yes. it does change color. it will change to a rich yellowish hue.

Yes. I've stripped and restained windows - in some cases we restored the existing trim, in some cases we had to mill new wood to match.

If you have a sherwin-williams around, go in and make friends with them. :) They can make custom stain to match your existing finish, based on the wood you are using and topcoat intend to use. *Also generally with pine, you usually do a wood conditioner before stain. They should be able to get you something reasonably close, but it takes finding the right employee with the right level of patience and eye for things. Once they do nail down the formula, make sure to keep the barcode. I destroyed the barcode on my gallon and the formulation was lost forever.

And in the end, there's going to be some variance between wood, how it was finished, how much sun it gets, etc... you would go crazy trying to match things exactly forever.

And there are different types of pine, which makes the job even more difficult.

Thank you all verrry much. I do have some conditioner and stain to play with before going to the store. And, I agree @Altair, wood is beautiful. It pains me when people want to paint it.

if i were paint wood, I would paint it white.

I decided to not replace the window trim and keep all of the original wood that aged in-place together. My goal is to keep it natural But I need to lightly stain 2 small patches to blend in.
