Kitchen Redesign Layout

Hello,

Looking for input on two design options for our kitchen remodel.

Option 1 keeps the range at its current location along the same wall as the sink (an exterior wall where the range hood vents)

Option 2 relocates the range to the adjacent interior wall and the range hood venting will have to run approximately 6 ft to reach outside.

The opposite wall would hold an entry/drop zone with microwave, fridge, and pantry cupboards.

I have also added another photo for those of you who will recommend I take down the wall. We currently use the space on the opposite wall as a library/play room space and have a sunken living room further along. I think if the wall comes down it will by default revert back to a dining room area and we will loose living space.

For context, we are planning to live in this house for maybe another 5-10 years, it is not our "forever home".

Option 2 and put a window over the sink.

I agree with option 2. You will really like having all that counter space between sink and range. Also agree with window over sink if possible. Right now there is a lot on the walls with cabinets and shelves. I.e. it feels very heavy on the walls. Can you eliminate some/ all of the upper cabinets on the sink and range walls?

I think I would remove the wall and go with option one.

Of the two choices, Option 1. It looks as if you have more than the NKBA recommended minimum of 36" prep space between the sink and range, and the peninsula can function as a secondary prep space, or space to spread out (filled or cooling cooky sheets, groceries to load to pantries and fridge, etc.). I wouldn't want the hood in the pass-through, and there can be too much of a good thing--36-48" between the sink and range is efficient. Have you considered putting the DW and sink under the pass-through, with the range on the exterior wall?

ETA, you could put the MW in an upper cabinet to the left of the fridge, which would make it easier to use.

I am not sure i like either one although stove in the corner really kills usable space. Who is the person that going to spend most time in the kitchen? Queen bee deserves prime location and it is window. Me I would move my sink and prep area right where I would enjoy it the most. Family ain't going to pay attention to great view during meals.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts

Lindalana - yes we have a bit of an odd size to find the best functionality. The windows go below counter height so it really only functions for seating. And Queen Bee would be me ;)

Mama goose - yes there is more than 36" of prep space. I didn't look at moving the sink as we are trying to keep it simple enough to avoid getting a permit I.e. no structural or plumbing changes. Thank you for the microwave thoughts. I dislike it below the counter, but couldn't think of a better place. I was trying to leave open shelving above that area to create the illusion of more openness. If it is closed cabinets up top, I think it will make the entrance feel a lot more narrow.

Jendebaunhoward - I could eliminate some and still have more than I have currently but would open space without adding a window look odd? I agree a window would look nice but I don't have any experience adding a new window in a house. Is this a big deal? Our exterior cladding is brick at that location.

Carrie - I can try to figure out how to export in 2d. Could you clarify "all dimensions" with particular dimensions that would be helpful?
