Always STPP. Sometimes Biz powder. Almost always chlorine bleach on whites, if not then Biz or oxy. Sometimes liquid softener. Never run a machine-cleaning cycle, no need for it with my habits. :-)

What is it?

STPP is Sodium Tripolyphosphate.

Otherwise known as Phosphates back in the day.

Powdered detergents usually had Phosphates way back when and helped detergents work better.

It was removed as it had an adverse affect to the environment.

Last I bought was via Amazon from seller Quality Producer Direct. Prior to that was Amazon via Pro Supply.

Off topic, I don't know how much gentler SP is compared to liquid bleach but I will state this.....

On mom's front loader, sanitize cycle with Citric Acid, 2 Cycles of Sodium Per . That/s roughly about 8 Hrs of washing cycle right there. Each Santize Cycle is around 2 Hrs and Change. If one peeled the Gasket Back, you could still see some buildup after the 3 cycles.

It's my understanding Liquid Bleach is also not good for the rubber gasket ?

Anyhow, I did 2 back to back Sanitize Cycles with LB and that got rid of off the buildup. I knew it was working after the 1st sanitize cycle as when you peeled and looked at the outer drum, you could see black -specks- that was loosened up from the 1st LB Sanitize Cycle. Still clinging but definitely areas had been broken up. After the second cycle, it was about 90% clean !

SP ... you mean STPP?

There's a food-grade version of STPP used in foods and toothpaste that's more pure than the industrial grade used for cleaning products.

ETA: I don't think chlorine bleach fits the criteria of food-safe.

Percarbonate and liquid peroxide are my primary ones. I also make a powder that's bentonite + baking soda + salt primarily for the bentonite's softening power

I add citric acid in where fabric softener is supposed to go, and Borax and STPP in with the detergent for every cycle.

Would the citric acid break down fabric?

No, citric acid causes no damage to clothing.
