I don't think there is a 'best', per se.
The 'best' for you would be the option that does what you want/need and that is in your budget.
Start by finding a competent home automation outfit that you trust and have good rapport with. Work with them to develop specs based on your wish list and your budget.
They should be able to steer you in the right direction as far as brands are concerned.

CONTROL4 is best for the money and expand ability.

Only read below if you want the very quick and inexpensive way to do this and you can forgo the custom, one-touch scenes. Crestron, Control4, etc., are amazing but can get quite expensive --I just went through this. I have friends who have almost all of these systems (and I have a working knowledge of them as well - just not the budget for them!) so I started with pricing Crestron and it was the clear frontrunner ---but way too expensive considering the newer options out there. The same went for Control4 but it was less customizeable than Crestron. Unless you have tens of thousands of dollars for this, my solution was simple and so far works great. I bought a few iPad minis that are dedicated to different rooms. Everything in my home is automated and connected to my Wi-Fi (Somfy shades, Honeywell wi-fi thermostats, lights, AT&T U-verse wireless TV system in multiple rooms, music). Every company has their own app -most are free (except my Somfy shades app - that was a whole $4), and I just have the apps loaded onto the iPad mini (you can get nice stands for the ipad minis and put them on the coffee table - looks very sleek). So yes, I have to switch apps to use different things but this takes 3 seconds and saved me literally thousands and thousands of dollars. I had to forgo "one-touch scenes". Just my 2 cents.
