Dining table placement

last modified: 5 years ago

Hi, we’re building a house with the layout of kitchen with large island to dining area to family room all open to each other. My question is do we need to center the dining table with the island?

If we don’t center it, we will have more room between the table and a hutch that will go on a wall in the dining area. But that would mean the table wouldn’t be aligned with the island and the light fixture over the center of the table would not be aligned with the row of 3 pendant lights over the island, but we would have 48 inches between the table and the hutch.

If we do align the table and the island, we’ll have almost 36 inches between the table and hutch and the table and light fixture would line up with the island and the pendant lights. I want everything aligned but hubby wants more room between the table and hutch. Thoughts? Thanks!

Hope I'm doing this right with posting the pic. Here's the basic layout - the table and hutch are brown (I did this on Excel so it's not great and not entirely to scale), cabinets are gray, appliances black. Hubby wants alot of room between the hutch and the table due to that being the main path to the kitchen from the living room. I'm just not sure how it will look with the table/lights not being aligned with the island. Lights are the small green boxes. Door to deck will either be a slider or a glass 36" door. Thanks for your help!
