You need to understand if you are using trees from your property it takes quite a while before they can be used at all since they will need to be kiln dried and then milled. I have never heard of nails being eaten by red cedar , cedar posts are used all the time for construction but you will need to ask your architect about materials to use where you are.

Thanks for the response. From what I read, the red cedar can be used after only a couple weeks of drying. Also, it doesn't warp or twist, but if not sealed on top and bottom, there is a risk of it splitting.
