If the flooring is marble, or you live in a region with much rain/snow, I'd place a runner down for safety. You may be able to make do with a rug immediately inside the front entry, making it wider, and shorter in length.

Ceilsan32 Thank you for your reply. No snow but it does rain a lot. Just not sure about the rug at the front but I will consider it:)

I don’t think I’d do a runner because it seems very narrow where the staircase is. Maybe a 4x4 square rug right in front of the door?
