Stackable units in typical small hall closet. Water Shutoff. Anyone?

Buying a 100 y.o. house where the previous owners installed a stackable w/d in a typical 36" wide hall closet. Given it's on the 2nd floor, I would MUCH prefer to have a manual water shutoff near the door.

I know good hoses, changed regularly, will greatly reduce the flooding risk..but I would MUCH prefer to have a manual shutoff to know there is almost no chance of leaks. I know I can do an electronic shutoff, but those don't always work. And I'm used to shutting off the line after doing laundry (had a shutoff in my old house).

Anyone rerouted their water lines to have a shutoff right at the doorway?
