You have such a beautiful foyer! An indoor wall fountain would be an awesome addition. It would definitely be a talking point when people enter, and the soothing sounds of the water would be really welcoming. Because they are made for indoors, you wouldn't need to worry about splash or spill.

Below are a couple of vertical units with mirrored surfaces that would look nice but you could also do a natural stone and have it be stunning as well.

Hi edwmom! Currently, your foyer is very traditional and not so much contemporary. To lean toward contemporary I would paint the door a contrasting color. I know you just painted but it seems like you have a North facing room, is that correct? The light is washing out your interiors. I would opt for a warm white on the walls and paint the wainscoting a warm grey or give it a bolder look with navy or emerald.

We like the paint colors for now and don't intend to paint again.

Our house faces west...slightly south west. We get super bright sun in the front of the house in the afternoon/evening.

I was more looking for suggestions for what to hang on the walls to break up the big open spaces.

And, I definitely made a mistake using the word contemporary. I really just meant updated (our house was totally grandma's house when we bought it. lots of cosmetic updates needed). So...Yes, our house is traditional, some areas a little transitional. So traditional ideas for the open wall spaces would be great.

Art on the walls would be the only recommendation. It's such a small area though, it's not like people will be lingering.

If you do art, make it big.

I like it as is. Too much stuff will only crowd the space, even stuff on the walls.

I also like your foyer as is and really love the plantation shutters on the sidelights! Is that something you did yourselves or did you have them installed?

Beautiful foyer and I do love the paint on your walls! I noticed the entryway table looks like it has nothing on it. For a burst of color and interest, I suggest a beautiful vase of flowers, like this:
