Fix my laundry room floor plan

Good morning all.

We have a challenging laundry room space with an external door and an obstruction/unusable space (the other side is a built-in bar).

Several months ago, we got a proposal from a designer.

I am thinking stacked W/D might be a better use of space and allow for better storage. In my fantasy world, I find a way to accommodate a sink in this room. There is no other utility sink in the house, and it would be great to have a place that isn't the kitchen sink to handle muck. Is this a pipe dream, given the obstacle of the bar? (Which if removed would obviously help my space situation a great deal, but... isn't going to happen.)

Do any of you have ideas for how to use the space I have to make my laundry room life a bit better?

Here is the current space. As you can see, it is a hot mess.

I cannot open my dryer door more than a few inches. I have to use hangers and sticks to get clothes out, and while I have been able to live with it for almost 3 years, my tolerance has been exhausted.

first, do you really want the wet bar and closet in there to stay? if it was to not be there, more space could be available. If you remove the closet in the laundry room, you can have both side by side. Put a countertop on top (wall mounts will let this be done) or you can stack them in the corner that the closet was. If you stack them you can add narrow cabinets and either had countertops made or cut down stock countertops tot eh narrower width. the shallow cabinets below will give you places for soap and other laundry items, the top will give you a place to put the baskets as well as a place to fold.

If you dont need or want either, then if you wanted it side by side, you can do so. and put in a cabinet in what is now a dead space. or still do the above with more room.

Also, does the laundry room entrance need to be an exterior door (like if it exists off a garage? If not, use a pocket door, barn door or bifold doors that look like one solid door. T

his will free up more room.

Seems like a good space if you just remove the closet, or make it shallower. Cabinets and sink where the closet is?

@Jesse Fay Do *I* want to keep the bar....? Haha. It's a loaded question. It is my spouse's favorite "design feature" of our 80s house (not exactly historical). It would clearly solve many of my space conundrums if we removed it. I just don't think it's the hill I want to die on, because we are also remodeling the kitchen. :) Totally agree with you on the pocket door. This laundry room is off the kitchen, and there is an exterior door to the deck in there as well. Having a regular interior door between kitchen and laundry room is wasting space that I could utilize.

@emilyam819 We are definitely getting rid of the closet, that will definitely help. I think you're right that it's the best space to try to get cabinets and/or a sink.
