In that post, you say the walls are plaster, looks like drywall to me.

Some comments/questions: With the other stuff you ripped out, someone will need to do some patching and painting. The holes to find studs is the easiest to fix. Please do not just put something up there to cover the "damage"

I can't see where you removed a built-in vanity.

I think a floor plan with dimensions would help folks give you some better opinions.

Thanks dasminis - walls are def plaster. The "vanity" I removed was handmade, built in - it was in the corner, not surrounding the sink. An old-fashioned vanity where one might sit to do hair & make-up.

I would go with open shelves-you are coming in dirty-grab and go- who wants to open a cabinet to grab a towel?

Definitely a deep laundry room sink. Home Depot has a nice stainless steel one in a cabinet that I've been wishing for to replace the old one we have that is so stained and ugly. This one even comes with the faucet. It's small and nice looking. Bonus for you would be the cabinet to store stuff in -- watering cans, pots and other stuff for gardening.

Our can drywall the hole from the medicine cabinet removal. You will need to put in a backer to drill the drywall too. There are screens you can buy as well to mud over the holes from removing the inserts. All the screw holes can be mudded as well and painted. Affordable shelving unit for your corner can be sourced at hardware stores but I have found a bookshelf unit at Jysk that we’ve used in our front closet for storage of gloves, scarves, purses and cleaning supplies to work very well and looks lovely. Just search bookshelves on the Jysk site for affordable options with different finishes and sizes. I’m sure you will do a great job. Just measure before you shop.

My only thoughts were: putting in a pocket door doesn't require you to make the wall thicker or change anything except turning the studs the other way. So you'll have to open one side of the wall space to do that. The other thought is to have the door open out of the room instead of into it....if there's room to do that. And maybe change the hinges so the door opens 180 degrees and flat against the wall outside the room.

You could put up recycled wood boards on the towel bar wall and then add some sturdy hooks for jackets, scarves, aprons, etc. If there is room, maybe a "boot tray" under to catch muddy shoes. Plant in the corner in a rustic metal container (perhaps with legs to raise it up to catch the window light) or a hanging plant to save floor space. An open vertical cabinet (maybe wood or metal and wire) for gloves, containers for tools, seed packets, etc. A couple of industrial light fixtures (either oil rubbed bronze or metal) a pretty mirror hanging from a rope over the new sink!

Also, you probably don't need a medicine cabinet there, or even a mirror unless you want it to bounce light around; it were me, I'd put some kind of fold-out laundry style rack in that spot to hang washed gloves, headbands, etc to drip dry into the sink.

Open shelf above that for washcloths or clean dry gloves and/ or open shelves in the corner with room at the bottom for dirty boots and shoes.

Deepest sink you can fit there, open underneath for visual space unless you need the storage.

Make it work for you.

i definitely want a very deep sink ( utility or laundry type) and I also want a cabinet around it. How do I match the two? I can’t afford to pay over $600 for both - and I do not want a SS sink. I’ve spent hours searching for a combo that is not SS and is within my price range. Is $600 to low?

Lauren - changing the hinges is a good idea. Due the configuration of the area a pocket door won’t work

SS is so practical and I think it looks good.

You could buy a deep sink and then have a cabinetmaker make the cabinet to hold it. I know someone who bought a vanity for the sink. The vanity was not made well, a cabinetmaker built a replica reusing the sink, well made and not that expensive.

Think about the things that come in from the garden with you: dirty boots, gloves, dirty hands, maybe muddy clothes. Also, this might be a place for bug spray, sun lotion, hats, etc...the things you need when you leave for the garden. So, for coming and going a great deep sink is wonderful; hooks for hat/clothes/jacket/etc with a boot tray below (maybe hooks on either side of the window and that boot tray below the window? Or maybe just to the left when you enter the room?). Make sure you have a cabinet for the sun/bug things. Would any of that help?

Great ideas! I'm working on the walls now. Floor goes in next week, then I can put these suggestions to good use.
