Hey, folks. I have a 1954 "mid-century modest," and i love it, but have lost many original details, like jalousies, with updates. I will keep as much mint green bathroom tile as possible, but as for terrazzo, it's looking iffy.

Think Greyhound bus station bathroom. I have access to this original terrazzo in two small bedrooms and the bath, but having removed covering from bath floor, I have to say, it's looking not promising.

No before and after photos I've seen online really look like this.

There is not one ding, scratch, pit or crack, but the cement substrate, if that's what it's called, is sort of an overall, darkened dirt color. Making it shiny wont be enough.

Where I can see terrazzo at a threshold to the back door, the cement is much lighter and appears as though it could be nice. There are some pretty chips.

I've done a test patch with hair peroxide, as someone suggested. No real result there.

I grew up on terrazzo in S. Fla, and as i look, I see it has many fans now, and I dont see one person ever saying that some terrazzo can't be restored or isn't worth it, but, I'm wondering..

Any suggestions as to how to lighten this stuff?

Any experiences, thoughts to share?
