Please post the room, so we can see your style and allow houzzers to understand what type or style of sofa you are looking to buy, modern, traditional, overstuffed, leather, mid century sleek?

If it's just for you and your family to lounge around, do the sectional. If you are going to be entertaining other people there, do the two sofas. Adults often do not feel comfortable all sitting on the same piece of furniture for social events. For entertaining, two sofas are more gracious.

But it would be helpful to see the space and better understand the options.

I think it depends on a few things.

Space: will 2 couches feel squeezed in with corner table. If so, maybe a sectional would be better. Don‘t want to crowd.

Comfort: In a pinch, couches may accommodate 6, while a sectional most likely won’t. What’s a better seating arrangement for your family. What will be more practical/comfortable.

Option: Would a longer couch and two chairs work?

Two couches for sure. Four armrests. 😁

If you only have 2 choices the answer lies in how you and your family like to be seated.

My sister and her husband sit on opposite ends of the room in the two recliners and no one sits on the sofa between them. It wasn't always like this, but since they both have gotten older it is easier for them to get up from the recliners.

My other sister has a 3 seat sofa with a 4th chaise seat and they have a recliner. (Large living room.) Her husband likes the recliner, her daughters fight over the chaise and my sister likes to lay on her side on the long part of the sofa to watch TV,

I like recliners, but not the look of a recliner. I live by myself and got a 5 seat + corner sectional with 3 reclining seats. Works perfectly - I have the 3 seat section facing the TV and the 2 piece section facing the fireplace. I can sit, recline or lay down and watch TV. The fireplace warms the seating area and TV is easily viewed from any of the seats. My dog seems to like the corner better than any other seat unless someone is over who doesn't mind a 50 lb lap warmer.

If no one will ever sit in the corner you might as well have 2 sofas with a table in the corner between them for drinks to sit on.
