Theresa, that is so cool! I absolutely love it! That solid turquoise is the perfect separation between the strings and the blocks. Such a nice quilt.

I love it.. That's one of my favorite patterns but I've never made it with the extra sashing along side the strings.

That's great, Theresa! I've wanted to use a large plain square in the center of a block before, but didn't know what to do about quilting in it since I just do straight quilting. Oh wait! I forgot......I decided I'm not even going to do that anymore......just make big quilts and send them to Beverly. lol

Theresa, what width are your string blocks? What size are your completed blocks? I have some old calculator paper rolls that might work to make the string blocks, but I think they are only 2-1/4" wide.

The string blocks are 3” finished, so 3 1/2” unf.

and the blocks are 9” finished.

the first video I watched was called X marks the block. That gave the instructions for the strips. The second video had the plain finish to the block. Can ‘t remember the name of it.

Several years ago, I made Bonnie Hunter's String-X quilt, which was very similar but had 4" wide string blocks, as I recall. I think 1-3/4" finished might make an interesting quilt too. I'll have to think about it.

I just scrolled through my quilt photos and yes, I did String X too. And several other string quilts and still the bin is full. So this quilt is basically the same idea except for the contrast sashing.

There's a MSQC pattern called cross roads that is just like that but doesn't have the blue strip down the side of the strings. I believe you cut therstrings to 12" lengths and 4 or 5 inches wide. Then you cut 5" squares in half to get two triangles and sew the flat end on to the strings. Then trim up the square.

Pretty much that idea Fran, except for the measurements.
