Exterior Rendering.

Hello, we just got a 3D rendering done for the exterior of our upcoming home what do you guys think. The rendering doesn’t show it very well but the roof will be curved black tile. Thank you

About what -- the rendering or the house?

To me, it looks plain, uninspiring--like @vinmarks said, I'm not trying to be harsh, but I know how long it takes to get to this stage with the architect. I just don't see a lot of effort and I would've expected more from the designer. Perhaps it's the massing. I like to see at least three distinct masses. How do you think it looks? What do you like about it?

    Architectural style? Prairie?

It’s pretty, but it looks commercial. At first glance, the brickwork and mini-roof folderol on the left side looks like another portico/entrance which adds to the office building feel.

Consider having the top of the stone and the sill of the windows being at the same level.

Here is the 2d version. Like I said can’t really see the roof lines in the 3D

Which says that someone on the street won't be able to either, but I don't think it matters.

When someone is showing a rendering, it's usually a final design -- how final is this?

Do you really want a black roof in a climate that allows Palm trees to grow?

I really like it. Simple and elegant. I think the brick goes up too high though.

"I don't want to sound harsh but it looks like a medical office to me."

That my was initial gut reaction as well.

Mine, too. Medical office was my first thought. Followed by funeral home.

I agree and IMO with a curved black tile roof I would not do the stone I love long low flat roofed MCM ranches so I guess I would be tempted to go in that direction

I think either only brick or only stone will help a lot. It’s a cute home. I just think the design wasn’t ironed out. The landscaping I think, is what’s causing some to say medical office etc.... and that’s such a simple fix. I’d do some boxwoods. Planters. And some flowers. Keep it simple. Clean lines. I’d also add some French doors to the front. I think that will enhance the design incredibly and again remove that little bit of commercialness of the design. I hope this didn’t come across as harsh. I think this is a great house. And a great base design. Can use Some tweaking but that’s every house!

I'd remove most of the stone along that line at the bottom. Something like this to make it look less like a building. Also black gutters.

Where is the home located? The stone feels very mountain-rustic and the color of the roof feels out of place with the palms trees/climate. I would select materials that are reminiscent of the region. The body of the home feels very contemporary. The entry door feels modern farmhouse. What style of home are you hoping for because right now the design is lacking direction? Once you decide on a style it will be easier to make suggestions.

The home looks unbalanced. With that lot configuration, the design should have incorporated a central entry. The increased mass on the left makes the main entry door seem shifted over to the right. The shed overhang tucked under the hip roof on the left side looks out of place with the houses roof style. The angled wood corbels (including the unnecessary ones at the entry door) don't really go with the style of the house either.

    Suspicious

Why pay for a 3D rendering and then only show a view of the front elevation?

The absence of the 3rd dimension in the design is what makes it look utilitarian.
