My first thought is window boxes under the windows with some colorful flowers and bushes in the space under the small lower window to add greenery, hanging basket by the door. For some inexpensive ideas you could change out seasonally!

Make the jerkenhead clipped gable into a full gable and paint the house a color.

What is on top of the part with the triple windows?

I can’t see where you could put a porch and suspect town regulations would come into play. The bungalow is quite appealing as it is. If it were mine I’d paint it a wonderful color, do some fun stenciling up the risers of the stairs, get a new storm and paint the door and the entire frame of the door a gtrat color or white if that goes best after you’ve painted the rest of the house

Could that triple window area have once been a porch ?

I like the white but if you are inclined, figure out a different color.

I think it needs color and contrast and it will pop. Found this picture to help you envision what paint can do.

I think I wouldn't paint it a dull grey color. Looking at one of the photos ^^^ when it's a typical day with marine fog or haze, grey will blend with gloom. If grey, I think I'd go with a perky grey.

I DO like the pop of aqua in @Maureen 's post, though. That's very clever. The two-tone in the grey is attractive, too.

In that last photo (the white one with the blue door), even the tiny details like the black light fixtures and the house numbers freshen up the look.

If your town allows a porch on your extension you can put chairs and an umbrella but I don’t think it will improve the exterior of the house. And make sure you get a pro to determine how much weight that flat roof can bear. Lots of terrible stories about people on balconies that collapsed during a party. And be sure if you put furniture up there it is secured against unexpected winds landing it on the heads of people below if you aren’t there.

many beach towns look very different with respect to color choices. Tropicsl shocker colors are the fun in many gulf coast towns but new engand beach towns are different. So go with the local sensibilitie. Beach bungalows are supposed to look slapped together and casuaL. That is part of their character, and who wants to spend their vacations doing home improvement?
